Quin Gonell
After serving culturally and linguistically diverse youth as a high school teacher for eight years, Quin Gonell moved on to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Vermont. As Quin works towards completing his dissertation, he helps serve over 3,000 BIPOC youth at a north-of-Boston high school in the role of Manager of Restorative Justice.
In this position, he strives to embody values cultivated throughout his years as an educational researcher, pedagogist, healer, leader, and community advocate. In his local community, Quin also serves as a men’s work facilitator where he collaborates with co-facilitators to hold space for and guide men who are ready to commence their inner work journeys.
As a teacher, Quin was inducted into the 2015 Salem State University Teacher’s Hall of Fame and in 2016 he was recognized as a Massachusetts Colleges and Universities Teacher of the Year. More recently, Quin was recognized as a recipient of the 2021 Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award and in the same year, he and his colleagues received the American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) Impact Award for Grassroots Community and Youth Organizing.
His scholarship has been published in notable peer-reviewed journals such as Review of Educational Research, Professional School Counseling, Action Research Journal, and the International Journal of Research and Method in Education.
